It was delightful watching the children of the five day program learn that stories can be told by means other than words as they followed Tara Edmondson’s lead in retelling the story of the Nutcracker that the children had been hearing during circle in ballet motions.
The children scampered into the center of their circle to collect their imaginary presents, took them back to their space to open and display them to the music of the Nutcracker. Boys and girls alike were engaged and graceful as they leapt over the river (a scarf) to the Chinese dragon section of the ballet music.
We feel so fortunate to have, two years in a row, had the nationally known choreographer and Richmond Ballet educator, Tara Edmondson, enchanting the children with music and movement from one of the world’s most famous ballets.
Thank you, Tara! (In case you did not know, Tara is Parker’s mom and Parker is in the Green room.)
