Our School

  • Our School2
St. Stephen’s Preschool is founded on the following principles:

    Choice
Young children grow and develop best intellectually when they can structure their own learning. Therefore, they are free to choose from a wide range of developmentally appropriate activities. Children are encouraged to ask their own questions and seek their own answers through exploration within a carefully structured setting.

    Environment
Young children need a secure and loving environment for emotional and social growth. Therefore, teachers provide models of mutual respect and affection and make rules and expectations that are clear. Children are encouraged to express themselves through language — using “their words”.

    Guidance
Young children learn to take responsibility for themselves as they are taught to read clues in their environment to help them make decisions. They learn that there are consequences to the choices they make and to the actions they take. Teachers help children learn to speak for themselves. At St. Stephen’s Preschool we know that a child’s social and emotional maturity is the best indicator of his/her future success in school.
