Can you believe that we are almost at the end of February and that it is time for conferences again?
Even though this will be a short week for our children, there will still be a lot of excitement as we focus on the book, Stone Soup.
When the children choose work in the green room, they will find that they can paint with rocks inside a can. This process makes a lot of noise but it results in very interesting pictures. Be sure to ask how your child made this work of art!!
There will also be rocks (stones) to press into the play dough, rocks at the circle table that can be used to tell stories and very interesting aluminum foil at the easels. If this is a room that your child doesn’t usually frequent, this might be a good week to give it a try.
In the yellow room on the science shelf, there will be rocks, geodes and magnets. On the light table your children will find cut stones to examine.
Literacy activities include the dry erase alphabet, book writing, pertinent word writing and the sentence, “The soup is hot.”
Math activities include vegetable/fruit sort, number sticker lines, and Valentine math. Of course, there is the computer as well as the large blocks for building. There is so much good thinking and problem solving going on in the yellow room while the children play and learn.
The blue room’s dramatic play area will be set up with a Stone Soup Café. The children will have the opportunity to “make” soup and serve it in our very own café. What fun!!
Moon sand along with vegetable shaped play dough molds will be in the sensory table so the children can create vegetables in the sand.
Manipulatives always provide fine motor work and problem solving opportunities. Available this week will be teddy bear legos, a build- a -vehicle set, magnetic tubes, Valentine designs and balancing bears.
We hope that each room’s offerings will provide your child with the ability to incorporate our focus story into a variety of daily activities. We want each child to be excited to look for other opportunities to extend the Stone Soup story at home. This would be a great time to let your child help cook, make a grocery list and then shop at the grocery store.
Fondly - Your Day Teachers
