February is off to a great start in the 5 day program. We are all very busy learning and exploring throughout the program. We are enjoying these sunny days even though THE Groundhog told us we have 6 more weeks of winter!!! It may be warm right now… but we all know how quickly the weather can change. You might want to consider leaving a pair of mittens and a hat in your child’s backpack, just in case we have a few more cold mornings.
The children are working on many different projects in the Green Room. With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, we are discussing symmetry as the children are drawing and cutting out hearts of all sizes. They are all decorating their Valentine’s Day bags as well as some special projects that will be arriving in your homes soon!!!
In the Blue Room, the children are pouring, digging and sifting strawberry cake mix in the sand table. What a treat!!! We actually will be making strawberry muffins in our classrooms this week. (We will NOT use the same mix that’s in the sensory table!) The post office is set up and the mail carriers are hard at work processing all of those packages and letters.
The Yellow Room has a variety of new activities going on this week. The science shelves are full of magnetic opportunities. There are hearts out for patterning, size comparison, and sorting. There is also a new flip book where the children can create a heart person. “I can make a heart.” is the sentence in the sentence builder center.
We are all looking forward to our time with our friends from St. Andrew’s School on Friday. They are coming to read with us and visit with us in our classrooms. We may even read our rhyme of the week for them.
The Queen of Hearts
The Queen of Hearts,
She made some tarts,
All on a summer’s day.
The Knave of Hearts,
He stole the tarts
And took them clean away.
A BIG thank you goes out to Gwen Campbell, a local artist and art teacher. She came as our guest artist to visit with the children a few weeks ago and shared her pottery process, tools and skills with us. The children loved working with the clay. They all helped create a garden stone that will be put in the garden once it has dried, been painted and fired. We can’t wait to see our finished product!!!
Fondly, Your 5 Day Teachers
