St. Stephen’s Preschool is founded on the following principles:
Choice Young children grow and develop best intellectually when they can structure their own learning. Therefore, they are free to choose from a wide range of developmentally appropriate activities. Children are encouraged to ask their own questions and seek their own answers through exploration within a carefully structured setting.
Environment Young children need a secure and loving environment for emotional and social growth. Therefore, teachers provide models of mutual respect and affection and make rules and expectations that are clear. Children are encouraged to express themselves through language — using “their words”.
Guidance Young children learn to take responsibility for themselves as they are taught to read clues in their environment to help them make decisions. They learn that there are consequences to the choices they make and to the actions they take. Teachers help children learn to speak for themselves. At St. Stephen’s Preschool we know that a child’s social and emotional maturity is the best indicator of his/her future success in school.

Programs
Toddler’s Morning Out 1-Day Program A child may enter this program between the ages of 12 and 18 months.
2-Day Program There are 2 two-day programs for children from 18-26 months.
Two-Year-Old Toddlers 3-Day Program The 2-year-old child in this program will typically turn 3 sometime between September and February after entering this class.
2-Day Program The 2-year-old child entering this program typically will not turn 3 until sometime during or after the spring of the school year.
Three to Five Years Old 4-Day Program A four-day program for 3 to 3 1/2 year-olds.
5-Day Program A five-day program for ages 3 1/2 to 5 year-olds.
June 1 – 1st Tuition Payment (60%) due July 26 – Lead Teacher Meeting July 27 – 5-Day Teacher Meeting August 29 – All Forms Due August 29 – September 2 Staff Work Days begin/In Service Training September 6, 7 & 8 – Classroom Visits – Children and Parents September 7 – Parent/Teacher Open House – 7pm St. Stephen’s Fellowship Hall September 8 – Orientation for NEW parents – 11:00am – St. Stephen’s Lounge September 9 – Orientation for Volunteers – 9:15am – St. Stephen’s Small Fellowship Hall, Orientation for Snack Room – 10:15am – St. Stephen’s Small Fellowship Hall September 15 – 2nd Tuition Payment (20%) due September 25 – Parent Welcome Party October 10 – Columbus Day – School closed November 10 – Parent/Teacher Conference Day – 4 and 5 Day Program. No classes on the day of your child’s conference. Sitters available from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm with paid advance registration. November 8, 9 & 10 – Parent/Teacher Conference Day – Toddler/TMO Programs, No classes on the day of your child’s conference November 15 – 3rd Tuition Payment (20%) due November 21, 22 – Schedule changes for TMO classes – 21-Mon/Tues class meets, 22-Thurs/Fri class meets November 21, 22 – Schedule changes for Toddler classes – 21-Toddler 3-Day class meets, 22-Toddler 2-Day class meets November 22 – Thanksgiving Service 10:30 am for Red, Blue, Green and Yellow rooms, Regular dismissal November 23 - 28 – Thanksgiving Holiday – School closed November 29 – Classes Resume December 15 – Last day of school, Regular Dismissal December 16 – January 2 – Christmas Holidays January 2 – Staff Work Day – No classes January 3 – Classes Resume January 16 – Martin Luther King Day – School closed January 29 – Chilly Chili Cook Off & Playground Party February 2 – Faculty Professional Development Day – School closed February 20 – President’s Day – School closed February 23 – Parent/Teacher Conference Day – 5 Day Program.
